Tracking

Tracking in IGP is primarily an obedience exercise rather than a true search. While dogs utilize their senses to complete the task, they must do so in a specific manner. Unlike a casual search for a dropped toy, where a dog may naturally follow scents, igp requires the dog to maintain a "deep" nose position, closely following a footstep trail and indicating articles encountered along the way. This structured approach showcases the balance between natural instinct and trained obedience in tracking.

Obedience

IGP obedience is a key component of the Internationale Gebrauchshund Pruefung (IGP) dog, showcasing a dog's ability to execute complex commands with precision. This demanding training program includes tasks like heeling, recalls, retrieving, and maintaining positions, all while managing distractions. It emphasizes the dog's positive attitude and willingness to cooperate with their handler, even in challenging scenarios such as gunshot reactions. Ultimately, IGP obedience tests the accuracy, enthusiasm, and control of working breeds, making it a rigorous yet rewarding experience for both dogs and handlers.

Protection

IGP protection is a crucial phase of the IGP dog sport that evaluates a dog's skills in searching for and confronting a stranger all while maintaining control under the handler guidance. This element not only showcases the dog’s bravery and instinct but also highlights the bond and teamwork between the handler and their canine partner. It’s an exciting demonstration of discipline, focus, and the effective communication required this sport.
